Having started a new year, just about everybody has made a list of New Year’s resolutions (I’m still working on mine). With our resolutions, we are saying that in the new year, we’re going to work on an area in our lives that we want to improve – to be better at loving our family, be a more thoughtful friend, read the Bible every day, save some of our money rather than spend it all, exercise more, you name it. Maybe you’re one of those people who doesn’t believe in making resolutions. Even so, you still have hopes and dreams for your life and things you’d like to see happen this year.

Have you ever thought about this: God has even greater plans and dreams for our lives than we could ever begin to imagine? It’s true! The passage above shows us that not only does God have plans and dreams for us, but He also makes them happen by His power working in us. We might call this Holy Spirit Power. That’s how much He loves and cares for us. He’s not content just letting us figure out life on our own and try to accomplish things – especially the tough stuff – on our own. He’s with us every step of the way!

When we reflect on God’s power in our lives, our response should be to give Him the glory. This means when we achieve our goals and when we reach our dreams, we cannot try to take the glory for these things. We must remember to turn back to God and thank Him for what He helped us do and for what He accomplished in and through us.

2009 is going to be an incredible year! Believe it and look for God to show up in your life in amazing ways!
