School is almost in session! Are you ready? If you’re like most teen girls you are excited and apprehensive at the same time and at the forefront of your mind is, “What should I wear on the first day of school?” Right?

Even though I’ll give a few ideas of what’s hot for fall in this blog post, I first want to give you some personal advice.

The first day of school is fun for many reasons but mostly because you are able to see friends you may not have seen all summer. For others, you may be going to a brand new school where you hardly know anyone. Many of you have made some internal changes this summer and with those changes, you need to make some new commitments. Whatever your situation, keep in mind that how you dress is part of what forms others’ opinions about you. If you’re meeting someone for the first time, you have seven seconds to make a first impression. In that first seven seconds, they form all kinds of opinions about you, before you ever utter a word!

So here’s the thing. Make sure what you wear shows “who” you are. But don’t do it too loudly. What I mean by that is to consider that how you dress on the first day of school needs to be a reflection of who you are on the inside because your clothes speak volumes. Don’t wear something entirely out of your comfort zone if it’s really not representative of who you are.

It’s important, also, to not go all decked out on the first day of school and then wear jeans and a t-shirt the rest of the year.

Be true to who you are, and wear clothes that reflect your personal style every day of the year, not just the first day. You won’t garner any unusual looks this way and others will find you approachable.

Now for some fall trends you might want to add to your back to school shopping list:

  • Colorful hi top sneakers

  • Red or gray jeans

  • Plaid, plaid, plaid

  • T-shirts with BIG words that reflect your beliefs

  • Clothes with Peace signs and Love verbage

  • Menswear attire: vests, blazers, trousers

  • Jeans with embroidery on them…do it yourself by heading to Michael’s

  • Bohemian skirts and printed tops

  • Tops that DO NOT bring any attention to your bustline

  • Layering, layering, layering

This can get you started! Have a great first week of school and remember to be true to who you really are by wearing clothes that show reflect who you are on the inside.

Beautiful Blessings,
Shari Braendel
