“The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.” Proverbs 11:25 (NLT)

Samantha talked yesterday about the importance of staying away from foolish and stupid arguments with your friends. What about if instead of getting into a fight that will only cause more pain, you deliberately choose to bless and serve your friend? The verse above shows what happens when we do this. When we refresh our friends – by encouraging or cheering them up, helping them with a project, or just finding a way to serve them – even when they make us angry or hurt us, it refreshes their souls. In turn, our souls will be refreshed.

We receive a unique joy and blessing when we give to others, especially when giving requires some kind of sacrifice for us. When we choose to give even when it hurts, we will prosper and be refreshed by God.

Reflect on This: What does it mean for you to give sacrificially to your friends?

Do This: Start making a list of ways you can bless your friends (this list may be different for each of your friends). When you notice your friend needing a little boost or help or when your friend frustrates you, pull out the list and ask God to show you which thing you can do to bless your friend. Then, do it!
