Revelation 3:5, “All who are victorious will be clothed in white. I will never erase their names from the Book of Life, but I will announce before my Father and his angels that they are mine.” (NLT)

A crowd of girls frantically searched the list, squealing with happiness when they found their name on the team roster. It was a happy scene, but it abruptly ended when one girl was left standing, not finding her name on the list. No matter how badly she wanted to be on the team and despite all her hard work, her name was not there. The same girls who were jumping with joy minutes before offered sympathetic hugs and tears. One list … many names … one name missing.

Seeing her hurt and pain brought tears to my eyes. I know the pain of desperately wanting something but not getting it. Instantly, I began thinking about all the people who, when their lives come to an end, will stand face to face with Almighty God as he flips through the book of life, only to realize their name is not there. They may try to remind Him of their hard work, good deeds and all the people they helped. They will desperately yearn to walk through the pearly gates, but won’t be able. Their window of opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as the one and only Savior will have passed. One list … many names … their name missing.

Revelation 20:15 says, “And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire” (NLT). This verse is not meant to scare people into accepting Jesus, but instead to share two very important facts: One, we must recognize our need for Jesus today. Two, knowing life is short and unpredictable, we must understand Jesus is the only way into Heaven. Once our earthly life is over, we will be faced with the consequences of our decisions, and at that time, we will have no power to change the outcome.

But today, you still can decide where you will spend eternity. Today is your opportunity to accept Jesus into your heart. Today could be the day He comes to live within you and your heart be forever changed. Today could be the day you not only gain eternal life with Jesus, but a joyful and fulfilling life on earth through the grace and love of Christ. Today could be the day your name is forever written on the pages of the book of life. One list … many names … and when your time comes, you could be assured God sees your name.

If you know Jesus as your Savior today, great! But does your friend? Peer? Teacher? Father? Enemy? Would God find their names in the book of life if they came face to face with Him today?

With the courage Jesus provides, reach out to them. Easy? No. Worth it? Absolutely! You could be the one God uses to lead them to Jesus. You could be the one to rejoice with them as their names are written in the book of life by God. One list … many names … is one name missing? Do something about it!

Dear Lord, I praise You for who You are, and for the sacrifice You made so that I could have eternal life in Heaven. Open my eyes to recognize the people in my life who need to find You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
