Today, we're honoring and remembering the life of Rick Watkins, father of one of our RadRev devotion writers, Emily Watkins. He will be forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

The following video is a tribute to his life and ministry. Please keep the Watkins family in your prayers.

Rick Watkins died peacefully at his home in South Carolina on Monday, January 25, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Lisa, and children, Kevin, Emily, Allison, Daria, and Joel.

Rick moved with his family to Poland in 1992, where he lived and faithfully served the Lord for over 17 years as a missionary with Mission to Unreached People Groups. He had a great love for the Polish people, and the impact he had on the nation of Poland is immeasurable.

During his first years of ministry, Rick worked intensively with youth, leading small group meetings in his home and Evangelistic English Camps in the summer. Later, Rick also led 6-week Discipleship Camps for teenagers and young adults that challenged everyone to a more disciplined and passionate pursuit of God. From the beginning, Rick also served as a key leader of the protestant church in Poland, organizing and speaking at conferences, youth gatherings, and many churches across the nation. Rick is one of the main people responsible for the 24-hour prayer movement that exists today in Poland as well as the recent dissemination of Christian literature to Polish households. Thanks to Rick’s teaching and example, today Polish churches are becoming more outwardly focused and many Polish Christians have taken the leap of faith and dedicated their lives to full-time missionary work in Poland.

Rick lived his life to the full for all the years given him. Throughout his life, he challenged everyone who knew him to a more radical and wholehearted pursuit of God.

2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (NIV)
