Shoe shopping is so much fun, especially when it is BOGO (buy-one-get-one half off)! From flats to heels, wedges to sandals, or bodacious boots, I never get tired of searching for the perfect shoe to compliment an outfit! From hot pink to leopard print, my shoe collection has grown to include everything from wild-n-crazy to simple and understated.
When thinking about shoes, it occurred to me what every girl really needs is a good pair of running shoes.
Why running shoes, you ask? Well, so that she can flee, or run away from evil at a moment’s notice! Running shoes aid our stride making it easier to evacuate dangerous situations while God’s Word ministers to our heart making our pathway clear. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 says, “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body” (NIV).
You know the story of Joseph and Potiphar’s wife, right? (See Genesis 39). Potiphar’s wife was trying to put the moves on Joseph – so he ran! Joseph was well-built and handsome. Potiphar’s wife noticed this and wanted to seduce him. However, Joseph refused to have anything to do with her, dropped his coat and left her presence immediately. Now that’s what I call fast moving and quick thinking on your feet! Even though Joseph was falsely accused of wrong-doing, he was pure in heart before God. God was with Joseph through the thick and thin of it all.
The next time you are put in a position where you are tempted to give in to any sexual activity – run away from it immediately - even if that means leaving your coat behind! High tail it out of there and put the pedal to the metal. Remember that God has called you to be holy as He is Holy. As a child of God, your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Honoring God with your body means you will run as fast as you can away from anything that entices you to do wrong. 2 Timothy 2:22 advises, “Flee from the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (NIV).
Follow in Joseph’s footsteps and run away from temptation! Just like Joseph was able to call on the Lord out of a pure heart because he acted wisely, running away from a bad situation – you, too can do the same. Focus on pursuing purity and keep yourself ready to run should you encounter evil. 1 Corinthians 10:13 shows us a way out: “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it” (NIV).
In summary, here are your exit strategies:
#1: FLEE – run away, escape, take off
#2: Choose the Right
#3: Be Pure
The next time you are shoe shopping, do some soul searching as well!
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Matthew 5:8 (NKJV)
