Asking the right questions is a great place to start as we take a closer look at our lives and God’s Word. Very few teens today ask themselves how they can preserve their purity … thankfully, David asks for us in Psalm 119:9a, “How can a young man keep his way pure?” (NIV)

The answer given states that purity is obtained and sustained by obeying and living according to God’s Word. Psalm 119:9b-11 says, “By living according to Your Word. I seek You with all my heart; do not let me stray from Your commands. I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You.

As a young person, you are directed to cleanse your way by living out the Word of God. You must make a choice between making the Word of God your authority or the worldly influences surrounding you. Choosing God’s Word takes guts! No guts, no glory, right? In order to do this you must get familiar with the Bible and decide to follow it!

Take a moment to ask yourself if you have made God-honoring choices. If there is any room for improvement in this area (and there always is) then begin by diving into the Bible and spending some quality time with the Lord your God. It is wise to apply God’s Word in your life. Use it as a compass or a road map that steers you onto the right path.

As a Christian teen, you are called to a higher standard than the world. You are set apart and God has a plan and purpose for your life. What will you do with it? How will you use your life to impact others for Christ? Jeremiah 29:11-13 says, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (NIV)

Maintaining a lifestyle of purity comes from your resolve to frame your life around God’s Word. It is when you purpose in your heart to give God your life and allow Him to prepare you from His Word. To commit your purity means you are determined to live a life marked by honesty, integrity, right choices and of course, purity. Get on your full battle gear as you engage in war daily to make sure your heart and life stay pure. “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life” (Proverbs 4:23, NLT).
