Key Verse:
Ecclesiastes 8:12, “Although a wicked man commits a hundred crimes and still lives a long time, I know that it will go better with God-fearing men, who are reverent before God.” (NIV)

Hey girls, Happy Presidents day! Today we remember out past presidents and pay our respects to them. So we thought that we would talk a little bit out about coming respectfully or reverently before the Lord.

Those aren't words we use too often, so what does it mean to be reverent? We are told to come reverently before the Lord; Jesus did so it must be pretty important. (Hebrews 5:7)

Reverence is a deep form of respect, a holy awe over our God, a humble submission in His presence. No, this doesn’t just mean saying “Yes, God, you are big and really powerful and I believe it.” It means to have a deep desiring love that realizes He is God and I am nothing without Him. I have no right to be in his presence and I am so blessed to be able to call Him Father. It means we must realize His Authority over us.

How do we become reverent?

1. Realize who God is.

He is a holy and powerful God, the Creator of the Universe.

2. Realize who we are.

We are nothing without God. Remember we were created from dust and to dust we will return (Genesis 3:19) However, God died for us so we mean everything to Him!

3. Be humble towards Him (Psalm 10:4)

4. Remember God loves us! We are His blessed children! He loves despite all we are!

When we learn to be reverent towards God we will also learn to be respectful towards others! We have lots of people we should respect or be respectful too. Parents, teachers, elders, there are many more. Make an effort to be reverent before God today.

Heavenly Father, I come before you reverently, I ask Lord that you would help me to understand what it means to be “reverent” before you. Lord, I ask that you would help me to be more respectful to others as well. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Malachi 1:6, “A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?" says the LORD Almighty. "It is you, O priests, who show contempt for my name. "But you ask, 'How have we shown contempt for your name?

Take some time to spend in prayer before God. Remember to go reverently before Him.

How important is it to be respectful to others? Do you only need to respect those who are older than you? Why or why not?
