Hey Rad Rev Girls,

Rachelle's devotional Going Shoeless really got me thinking about meeting with God in humility.

About a year ago, I was having trouble praying. It wasn't that I didn't want to talk to God or that there was sin in my heart. I was watching my life crumble around me and I didn't know what to say to God. Every time I did try to talk to God about what was going on, I just felt worried and confused.

I told this to a friend and she encouraged me to play worship music. I did that and it changed how I approached God.

Instead of coming to God with my usual worry list, I realized that God was King of the Universe and he already had everything under control!

Later, I understood what my friend taught me was how to humble myself and recognize that I was in God's presence.

1 Peter 5:6 tells us to "...humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor."

We can't truly worship God and worry at the same time. And we certainly can't worship God and be proud. One will always win out over the other.

Here's a song that always humbles me and puts me in awe of Who God is. If you can't see the video below, click here to see it.

"God of Wonders" ~ Third Day

Lord of all creation
Of water, earth, and sky
The heavens are Your tabernacle
Glory to the Lord on High

God of wonders, beyond our galaxy
You are holy, holy
The universe declares Your majesty
You are holy, holy

Lord of heaven and earth
Lord of heaven and earth

Early in the morning
I will celebrate the light
And as I stumble through the darkness
I will call Your name by night

God of wonders, beyond our galaxy
You are holy, holy
The universe declares Your majesty
You are holy, holy

Lord of heaven and earth
Lord of heaven and earth

Hallelujah to the Lord of heaven and earth (3x)

God of wonders, beyond our galaxy
You are holy, holy
Precious Lord, reveal Your heart to me
Father holy, holy
The universe declares Your majesty
You are holy, holy, holy, holy

Hallelujah to the Lord of heaven and earth (6X)

Lord of heaven and earth
Lord of heaven and earth

Early in the morning
I will celebrate the light
And when I stumble in the darkness
I will call Your Name by night

God of wonders beyond our galaxy
You are holy, holy
The universe declares your majesty
You are holy, holy

Lord of heaven and earth
Lord of heaven and earth

Hallelujah to the Lord of heaven and earth
Hallelujah to the Lord of heaven and earth

God of wonders beyond our galaxy
You are holy, holy
Precious Lord reveal Your heart to me
Father hold me, hold me

The universe declares Your majesty
You are holy, holy, holy, holy

Hallelujah to the Lord of heaven and earth (6x)

An Exciting Announcement!

Hey Rad Rev Girls,

We have an exciting announcement to make today: We're moving!

We know we've changed a little bit and we wanted our website to reflect that. We spent a few months talking about concepts and finally came up with this one on RadRevolution.com.

Some of you might know us as 'living with purpose: a radical revolution' but we really felt like Radical Revolution captured what we are about. Radical Revolution is about discovering God's radical plan for your life!

You can still see the old design up at RadRevolution.org for right now. We'll fully transition to the other site by next Monday. In the meantime, we want to answer some of the questions you might have.

I'm an email user. Do I have to re-subscribe to continue getting emails?

No. We'll handle updating the feed so you receive new posts seamlessly. They might look a little different but they'll still feature the same great content.

Will the new site work on my iPad/iPod/other fancy device?

Yes! We worked to make sure you could still get content from us on a mobile device without waiting forever for things to load.

I'd rather follow Radical Revolution on a social network. Are you on Facebook?

Yes, we are! We're here on Facebook and we're also tweeting on Twitter.

I still have questions! Where can I contact a real live person?

You can email Debra for questions or comments about Radical Revolution, the redesign or anything else related to faith and life.

Going Shoeless

Exodus 3:5, “Then He said, "Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground." (NIV)

Going ShoelessI take for granted the fact that I can meet with God every day. I forget that He is waiting, holding open His arms, inviting me to enter His presence.

I wonder if Moses had a similar problem. Maybe, Moses had a sheep-tending-before-God tendency. Perhaps, Moses struggled to come humbly before God, too.

When the former prince of Egypt became passionate about freeing his people, but didn’t run his plans past God first, he ended up in exile in the desert. He spent many days herding sheep.

Little did he know that God planned for him to shepherd the flock of Israel.

First, though, God had to get Moses’ attention. So God set a bush on fire.

At last, Moses paid attention to God when he saw the burning bush. Moses was deeply humbled as he realized that this was God speaking. To him! As a symbol of his humility, Moses took off his shoes at God’s command.

Can you see the sacred symbol behind Moses’ action? He was in the presence of God Almighty. Out of respect and in order to honor his God, Moses took off his shoes and “hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God” (verse 6).

This prince, criminal, and shepherd recognized that he was standing in God's presence. I wonder, how often do I acknowledge that I am in God’s presence?

I'm usually too full of my own pressing concerns, requests, and emotions to concentrate on the fact that I am bowing down before the King of the universe.

How smoothly my prayer time would go if I made a habit of acknowledging who God is and worshipping Him before I spring into the “I need’s”?

There’s only one way to find out...

Will you go with me to regularly approach the Throne of Grace by first taking off your shoes?

Dear Lord, I am humbled. I am in Your presence and that is an amazing and life-changing thing. Thank You! In Jesus' name, Amen.

Hey Rad Rev Girls!

I hope you had a chance to read All Is Not Lost on Tuesday. This week we started talking about what happens when we feel caught out in the rain. A lot of things can leave us feeling powerless, victimized, alone, and scared.

But no matter what you're facing, victory is yours because of Jesus!

“No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.” – Romans 8:37 New Living Translation

Today, I wanted to share a song that is my theme song when life is hard. I love to select this song from my iPod and play it loud!

You can check out the video below to see my theme song. If you can't see the video below, click here to go to YouTube.

"Stronger" ~ Mandisa

Hey, heard you were up all night
Thinking about how your world ain't right
And you wonder if things will ever get better
And you're asking why is it always raining on you
When all you want is just a little good news
Instead of standing there stuck out in the weather

Oh, don't hang your head
It's gonna end
God's right there
Even if it's hard to see Him
I promise you that He still cares

When the waves are taking you under
Hold on just a little bit longer
He knows that this is gonna make you stronger, stronger
The pain ain't gonna last forever
And things can only get better
Believe me
This is gonna make you stronger
Gonna make you stronger, stronger, stronger
Believe me, this is gonna make you ...

Try and do the best you can
Hold on and let Him hold your hand
And go on and fall into the arms of Jesus
Oh, lift your head it's gonna end
God's right there
Even when you just can't feel Him
I promise you that He still cares

'Cause if He started this work in your life
He will be faithful to complete it
If only you believe it
He knows how much it hurts
And I'm sure that He's gonna help you get through this

When the waves are taking you under
Hold on just a little bit longer
He knows that this is gonna make you stronger, stronger
The pain ain't gonna last forever
In time it's gonna get better
Believe me
This is gonna make you stronger

All Is Not Lost

Last year, my family went through a stressful time. Sensing we could use a vacation, an elderly couple from our church loaned us the use of their cabin. Located in the mountains, this cabin was a beautiful spiritual retreat.

Along with the loan came a few pages of instructions. These were basic instructions that explained how to use the appliances, where to buy groceries, and even a solemn warning about keeping up with the keys.

After we had settled into the cabin, a light rain began to fall. Rain is rain anywhere but this mist was too beautiful to ignore. Tripping over each other, my family raced outside.

We stood on the porch and admired the beauty around us. When the rain began to fall harder, we retreated back to the cabin.

Or at least, we tried to.

In our haste to marvel at the rain, the door locked behind us and the keys were left inside.

It probably wasn't the best time to laugh, but looking around at the soaked faces of my family, I couldn't help myself. I laughed, not the gentle chuckle that comes when someone makes a witty remark. No, this was an all out, clutching-my-sides-tears-streaming-down-my-face laughter.

What I found so funny was that the thick packet of instructions had warned about such a scenario. The owner of the cabin had carefully stated: “If you are locked out, all is not lost”.

Through my laughter, I reminded my family of this statement. Usually a jovial bunch, my family did not join my giggles. Instead, they glared sourly at me and called a nearby neighbor.

Maybe you've been locked out in the rain, too. Remember that cloud of depression you felt stuck under? Or the day you heard that terrifying diagnosis? How about the moment you learned a loved one was in an accident?

Any number of things can leave us feeling like we’re stuck out in the rain, unprotected from the element of pain and heartache.

Yes, dear sister, you’ve stood where I stood that day. But let me encourage you that all is not lost. As dark as the days feel, you are not alone.

In John 16:33, Jesus told his friends, “…In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Jesus didn’t tell his friends that they might have a bad day or they might encounter a rough spot.

He told them that trouble was coming but he promised that he had already overcome anything they would face!

Whatever you’re dealing with today, you can find joy and peace because Jesus overcame not just the world and the grave but also won the victory over depression, over sickness, over grief, over shame, over abuse. Since Jesus triumphed on the Cross, our pain doesn’t have to defeat us!

What Jesus said to his disciples is the same thing I said that day in the rain, “All is not lost.”

Sharing Your Story About God

This Website Has Moved

and update your bookmarks.

Hey Rad Rev Girls! I hope you had a chance to read That Woman's Testimony by Rachelle. As Christians, we talk a lot about what it means to 'share your testimony'. Sometimes in all the talking, we forget to talk about how to share our testimony.

I define a testimony as a story about an encounter I had with God. A story about God! That's pretty easy to remember, right?

Most girls and women I meet - no matter their age - all have on thing in common: They love to tell stories! As girls, we just love to communicate.

But it can be pretty awkward to share your testimony on the spot, right? So here's a little trick I learned: practice telling your God encounter story. It's not wrong to practice your testimony. In fact, it's like telling a funny story. Do you have one funny story that you've told so many times that you know just how to tell it?

Chances are, each time you tell it, it gets funnier. Why? Because you've read the body language of friends and family. You've learned where to hype up the drama to make it funnier and where to add just the right snappy remark.

Sharing your testimony can be just like that! It doesn't have to be boring. It can be funny and full of life or it can dramatic or inspiring. While you might not have a testimony about being converted in a crack house (no one I know has a testimony like that anyway), you can take your encounter with God and tell it from your unique perspective.

I usually start my testimony with a couple of lines:  I had a relationship with God that was pretty shallow before I got sick but after I became ill with an auto-immune disorder, my life changed forever. [Note: You can read more about that here.]

As you can see, my testimony isn't life-shattering but it is about my encounter with God. So now, I want to hear about you...what's your testimony?

That Woman’s Testimony

John 4:39, “Many believed in Him because of that woman’s testimony…” (NIV)

“Lord,” I prayed one morning, “make me a more worthy messenger of Your Gospel. Make me more qualified, more equipped…” I stopped in the middle of my prayer, overcome with how selfish it had become.

I had prayed to become more worthy, when the only worthy One is Jesus Himself. I had asked to be more equipped when what I meant was “make it so that when I share the Gospel, I have all the answers and don’t embarrass myself.”

I wanted to be more qualified when I know that God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called. (Rev. Michael Beckwith said that.)

How different was my prayer from the story of the Samaritan woman! The Bible doesn’t give us her name, only her dramatic story and immeasurable legacy. Because of her life-changing meeting with Jesus at the well, an entire town of Samaritans was impacted for eternity.

Living water changed this woman forever, and because she couldn’t stop talking about this Jesus “who told her everything she ever did,” the destinies of countless others changed.

I want to be like that woman and make my life count that way. I never want to shut up about my Jesus!
Warning: When we let Jesus use us, our name may never be printed on the annals of history, our names may not even be remembered. But our lives will leave an eternal legacy.

I amended my prayer. “Lord, make me a more willing messenger of Your Gospel. Make me more open to Your Spirit’s leading and give me the words I need to say when I need to say them.”

Will you commit to being “that woman” with me today, not in it for the glory or recognition, but devoted to sharing your testimony so that many may believe?

Dear Lord, I want to be like that woman today, leading others to You. Open my mouth for You! In Jesus' name, Amen.

GO DEEPER:

Ponder: “‘Now, Lord, …enable Your servants to speak Your word with great boldness’… And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.” Acts 4:29 & 31

Apply: On a sheet of paper, write out your story of how you came to know Jesus. Practice with it until you feel comfortable sharing it with others.

Share: Have you ever shared your story?

Rachelle Rea coaches gymnastics at her local YMCA and is a college sophomore. She loves to write about what God is teaching her and how He is working in her life, but it is harder to share her story out loud. One thing that encourages her is that God says we don’t need to agonize about what we will say when opportunities come up to share the Gospel, because the Holy Spirit will be with us (Mark 13:11)!
